26 before 27 - Update

When I made my 26 before 27 I thought it would be nice if I posted some frequent updates. In past years I always felt I didn't wrote enough posts about it during the year and I had almost nothing to look back at when my birtday came round. So by writing these updates I'll keep myself motivated (because progress would be easier to track) and you guys would stay in the loop about it.

Make some 365 - Create/Make something new everyday, for 365 days in a row.
I'm really having a hard time with this one. Last year I did a 365 days of drawing project, which was a lot easier, because I knew everyday I needed to make one sketch. Now I spent too much time wandering what I should make, which techniques I should use, trying not to be repetitive. And then failing to make something in time of course.

Go through the 100 Things Challenge
I've already started my 100 things challenge, but I'm not nearly close to finishing it. I've put a lot of stuff in boxes, but I still need to bring them to the second hand shop

Discover some cool new café's and resto's in Ghent
I went to the Acht Zaligheden (which was quite expensive, not something I will do every month). They have a nice Art Nouveau themed style. The food was very tasty, but my meat was a litle bit too cold when they served it. I do want to go back sometime, I believe in second chances. ;) The Boy ate a pasta vongole and he absolutely loved it. I also went to Lucy Chan, which is apparently an Asian food chain. I really liked my Cocos Chicken Cury and best of all, it was cheap!

Going away for a weekend
By my next 26 before 27 update I'll be able to stripe this one of the list! We've booked ourselves a weekend in the Veluwe and I'm looking forward to long walks and being surrounded by nature.

Create my dream wardrobe
I already wrote this post about how I wanted to find my own style by making styleboards once in a while. I also cleaned out my closet. I put a whole bunch of clothes in the "away" pile (helping me to get to my 100 things) and I put a lot of other items in a suitecase. I'm planning to open that suitecase in one year and if I fit in them again they can stay, otherwise I'm going to bring them to a second hand store.

This & That [01]

Books // The Boy was talking about an interesting blog the other day, called The Futility Closet. Among the interesting and odd things I found there, there was this article about paintings on the sides of old books, which I thought was pretty remarkable.

Style // I love the embroidery on this jacket!

Song // Have you seen the trailer of Maleficent? It has this rad version of "Once Upon a Dream" from the original movie in it, covered by Lana del Ray. Love it!

Tattoo // I absolutely love this tattoo!

Studio // I really like this mixture of industrial design elements and botanical prints. I don't dig the straw hat tough.

Nature // A picture of a giant flying squirl. Belly-view. Really, what's not to like?

Illustration // Jonathan Woodward calls himself an environmental friendly illustrator. He really can call himself that, since he makes pretty collages from recycled magazines. His love for nature is evident in his work and I think it's wonderful he tries to make people aware of environmental problems, without making difficult to understand artwork.

Craft the perfect Wardrobe [01]

Creating (buying or crafting) my perfect wardrobe is one of the many tasks on my 26 before 27 list. I'm always a bit confused when I'm standing in front of my closet. I rarely feel the things I own fit each other well or are easy to mix and match. Because I want to visualise my "style" I'm going to post some fashion related pieces in the next year. Either talking about fashion or style, showcasing someone else's style I love or (like today) make a collage of pieces I like and how I would wear this (ideally). No worries, this wont become another fashion blog, in spite of reading Elle very faithfully for a couple of years, I'm not gifted with much sense of style or fashion. :)

Today already makes clear I like contrasts, between colours, but also between styles. Cute and tough? Let's mix 'em up! Now I only have to get away with this in real life..

Craft the perfect wardrobe
Zwarte blazer Kiomi - Broche kat Sketchinc  - Zwarte veterlaarsjes Even & OddBlauwe jurk Louche - Leren vest Vero Moda - Zwarte ballerina's  Anna Field - Zwarte panty's met dots Noa Noa

26 before 27

In about 340 days I'll turn 27. Like every year I celebrate the newest year in my life by giving myself a bunch of things to do. Deadline is my next birthday. This year is no different. I made a list compiled of new things (and old things, whom, although I really want to accomplish them, never get crossed of my lists). I added some very do-able things and some things that probably wont get finished but I'll enjoy trying anyway. 365 days, time is ticking, so let's go!

365 dagen tijd. Ready? Set. Go!

26 before 27 - a birthday list

I've added a translation, because my list is only partly written in English and explained my goals here and there some more.

  1. Make some 365 - Create/Make something new everyday, for 365 days in a row
  2. Draw something completely with my Wacom drawing tablet
  3. Make 52 illustrations
  4. Make one skirt every month (July)
  5. Read thirty books
  6. Work out for an hour, two times a week - Le sigh
  7. Drink Vodka in Moscow
  8. Organise a craft party
  9. Go through the 100 Things Challenge (were you have to get rid of a 100 things in your house in 3 months time, but! when you buy/receive something it's deducted from the total amount of things you got rid of)
  10. Finish my Chores list
  11. Design a (non-school related) poster
  12. Make a Boomerang card
  13. Prepare a five courses menu
  14. Get my driving license
  15. Discover some cool new café's and resto's in Ghent
  16. Read my Printmaking Bible and use them techniques
  17. 3 out, 1 in challenge - For every piece of fabric I buy, I need to give away or use three fabrics I already have
  18. Keep a visual journal
  19. Go hiking in the High Fens
  20. Read the Game of Thrones
  21. Go a weekend away
  22. Go sketching on location
  23. Create my dream wardrobe - Find out my clothing "style", keep the things I love and wear, get rid of the rest
  24. Do a photo shoot with our kitties!
  25. Read one Dutch literary classic
  26. Design a fabric pattern

So do you have some sort of list with things you want to accomplish?

School Projects

When the exams came nearby I was sort of looking forward to them, because I thought we would have a chill time, only studying and no assignments for a while. Alas, I was very wrong. We got some extra assignments which we had to finish by the end of the exam period. Between my last exam and the deadline there were only four days, and because I'm not very good at studying and working on projects at the same time, those four days were all I got. Well, minus one, because I had some sort of migraine attack on day two. Not a good moment. Next time I definitely will start a bit sooner!

We had to create a couple of things (a flyer, a poster, a logo and some card for a memory game), all about an animal happening for kids. We could pick our theme freely and because I wanted to draw some weird animals, I chose Australian mammals. Which wasn't a very good choice, because most of the more special Australian animals apparently aren't very photogenetic (although they are all frickin cute when they are little). Try a google search for good usable photos of a Tasmanian Devil, a Bilby or a Tree Kangaroo. Not much huh? Now try a plathypus. Apparently Australians don't spend much time photographing their wildlife.

I must admit, after seeing the awesome thing some of my classmates made, I'm a bit disappointed with my effort. I should've started earlier, made more sketches and thought about it longer. I passed, so it's not all bad, but I think I can do better. And next time I will definitely try to push myself more.. :)

And last, but not least, we had to make some extra sketches, one of which was themed "party" but we could only draw standing cilinders. Not easy to create a party atmosphere, but with the right drink, you get there. :)

Last Week [01]

Whew, second post of the day, I'm really spoiling you guys (not really), but I wanted to show what I've been up to the last couple of weeks. I had some days off from school after the exams in which I didn't do much, except for setting up this new blog, cleaning the house and hugging the cats. I also did some drawing and made some things for my MakeSome365 challenge, although I'm really having a hard time keeping up with this challenge. It was easier making a sketch every day, because I had a lot less decisions to make. Last week school started, we got a load of new assignments, so it's back to drawing, sketching and stressing for me.

Tweede post van de dag, I'm on a roll!

Making pie // Breakfast // All the things I wanted to read in my holliday // Sketches for a certain logo

Sketching and colouring // A pencil case that was so much harder in my head than in real life. Sadly, it wasn't meant for me // Some serious travel planning // Second day of the semester, already burried in sketches

Sketches for an assignment // Sunrise on Friday, very happy it was Friday, much needed also // I taught my cat how to take selfies // A Whisky tasting, not much too my liking, but tasting I did!

How was your week? Did anything fun?

Hoe was jullie week? Leuke dingen gedaan?

That first post

I've put a lot of thinking in this first blogpost. I consulted some of my favourite blogs, checking their first blogpost and I concluded their really wasn't a good way to to write a first blogpost. You can always start off with a "Hello, welcome to my new blog" or just ignore the whole new part and just start, but both options just felt a bit strange. It also doesn't help I have a pretty awesome Disney classic stuck in my head whilst typing this post (although I must admit, it's the Dutch version, which is translated as "A brand new start"). Luckely for you guys, Disney dramatics are the perfect way to start a blog! Let's go!

On y vas!
